Candles, Herbs, Incense

Candle of the Month: Orange

Orange candles are burnt to bring favorable results in the following: General Success, Property Deals, Legal matters, Justice, and Selling.

Incense of the Month: Blueberry

Blueberry incense when burned is said to ease an emotional heart ache. Also to calm and soothe your nerves.

Herb of the Month: Chamomile

Common Names: chamomile, German chamomile
Latin Names: Matricaria recutita, Chamomilla recutita

What It Is Used For

  • Chamomile has been widely used in children and adults for thousands of years for a variety of health conditions.
  • The herb is often used for sleeplessness; anxiety; and gastrointestinal conditions such as upset stomach, gas, and diarrhea.
  • It is used topically for skin conditions and for mouth ulcers resulting from cancer treatment.

How It Is Used

The flowering tops of the chamomile plant are used to make teas, liquid extracts, capsules, or tablets. The herb can also be applied to the skin as a cream or an ointment, or used as a mouth rinse.

What the Science Says

  • Chamomile has not been well studied in people so there is little evidence to support its use for any condition.
  • Some early studies point to chamomile's possible benefits for mouth ulcers and certain skin conditions. In combination with other herbs, it may be of some benefit for upset stomach and for diarrhea in children.
  • NCCAM-funded research on chamomile includes studies of the herb for generalized anxiety disorder and for chronic pain caused by children's bowel disorders.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • There are reports of rare allergic reactions in people who have eaten or come into contact with chamomile products. Reactions include skin rashes, throat swelling, shortness of breath, and anaphylaxis (a life-threatening allergic reaction).
  • People are more likely to experience allergic reactions to chamomile if they are allergic to related plants in the daisy family, which includes ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, and daisies.
  • Tell your health care providers about any complementary and alternative practices you use. Give them a full picture of what you do to manage your health. This helps to ensure coordinated and safe care.

Gemstone of the Month

Diamond

April's birthstone, diamond, claims the top spot as being the hardest substance on earth. The ancient Hindus called the Diamond "Vajra," meaning lightening, both because of the sparks of light thrown off by this gem, as well as its invincible strength.

Diamonds have been cherished throughout history, and have been used to embellish such items as crowns, swords and emblems as well as jewelry. Diamonds have also been credited for having certain medicinal properties. During the middle ages, these gemstones were thought to heal illness, but only if the ailing person took the Diamond into bed to warm it up first!

Created deep within the earth under tremendous heat and pressure, diamonds are actually crystallized carbon. The primary method of bringing diamonds to the surface of the Earth is volcanic activity. As a result, these stones are found in either the volcanic rock or are washed into rivers and streams. Although India is thought to be the first river-bed source of Diamond mining, today diamonds are found in Australia, the Soviet Union, and Africa.

The Museum of UnNatural History - Crystals
Crystals are the flowers of the mineral kingdom. Ancient peoples often valued quartz crystal (which they referred to as rock crystal) for its beauty and even believed that it had supernatural powers. Rock crystals were sometimes sculptured into shapes. An example is the famous crystal skulls. Also, crystal balls, sometimes claimed to be used to foretell the future, are pure quartz crystals polished into spheres.

What are Wicca, Witchcraft and Paganism?
This article describes how Wicca draws from the Old Traditions of Witchcraft. While this is true, we would simply like to clarify up front that Witchcraft and Wicca, while similar in many respects, are not the same. One can be a Witch, without being a Wiccan, just as a person can be a Christian, without being a Baptist. Furthermore, Wicca is a recognized religion, while Witchcraft itself is not considered a religion. Thus, Wicca might best be described as a modern religion, based on ancient Witchcraft traditions.

Taking Care of Your Spirit

by: HAR Janine

We all take care of our bodies by eating right and exercising. We take care of our minds by reading and educating ourselves, but how often do we take care of our spiritual energies?

It is important to have all three; body, mind and spirit, healthy and balanced for our own well being. But over the years we have forgotten to take care of our spiritual self, which is a source of our being. Our spiritual self is our connection to the universe. It is where our life force energies stem from and it changes throughout our bodies for physical and mental balance. It is important to keep it clean and well balance to be healthy.

There are several ways to do this and here is just a few that I have found that work for everyone.

Cleansing:
It is important to spiritually cleanse negative energies which not our own. We are conductors of energy weather we feel this or not. We tend to absorb other energies around us from people we come in contact with, family, friends, work, and our environment, etc. There are many methods of doing Spiritual cleansing; look around and find what works for you.

Meditations:
This benefits us in so many ways and I always advise people to find a good mediation exercise that works for them. Meditation helps us to get connected to inner self, focus on our energies, communicate with spirit guides, relieve stress, etc. It is an excellent way to balance body, mind, and spirit.

Angels, Spirit Guides, Higher Powers:
There are angels and spirit guides all around us and they appear to us as we perceive them to be, regardless of differences in beliefs. Through meditation and getting in touch with your spirit guides you get to know them better. You will find out how many wonderful spiritual helpers you have working with you as a team. Learn how to communicate with your own spiritual helpers and ask them to assist you. They are waiting for you to ask them for help and enjoy doing this. They can often see what our conscious mind doesn't allow us to see. Always thank them for their help and send energy of love in return they love this.

There are many different ways to use all three of these tools and even more ways to spiritually cleanse yourself. Let's all remember to take good care of our own energies and keep them cleaned and balanced. My advice is to do this daily and to do research to find out what fits for you and your lifestyle. You will feel better, have a better understanding of things over all, and see positive changes in your life.

Heaven's Angels Spiritual Readings will soon be offering classes about this topic and these tools. If you are interested in learning more about this topic look for our announcement in upcoming issues.

Blessings,
Janine

April's full moon is considered a Full Pink Moon - This name came from the herb moss pink, or wild ground phlox, which is one of the earliest widespread flowers of the spring. Other names for this month's celestial body include the Full Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and among coastal tribes the Full Fish Moon, because this was the time that the shad swam upstream to spawn.

April Celebrations and Observances

April Fool's Day - May 1st

April Fools' Day, sometimes called All Fools' Day, is one of the most light-hearted days of the year. Its origins are uncertain. Some see it as a celebration related to the turn of the seasons, while others believe it stems from the adoption of a new calendar. Click here to read about some of the myths about the origins of this day!

Passover Begins - April 19th

Passover, though celebrated by many Christians, is actually a Jewish holiday. In Judaic tradition, Passover occurs during Nisan, or the first month of the Jewish calendar. This holiday is named for and refers to the period in Judaic history when God "passed over" the houses of the Jews when the firstborns of Egypt were being slain. Click here to read more about the Judaic tradition of Passover.

The Christian Passover commemorates the deliverance from sin by the sacrifice of Jesus, the fulfillment of the prophetic Old Testament Passover. The Christian Passover begins on the evening of the 14th day of Nisan. Click here to read more about the Christian tradition of Passover.

Earth Day - April 22nd

Earth Day is a day when the world unites to fight against climate changes. Earth Day is a name used for two different observances, both held annually during spring in the northern hemisphere, and autumn in the southern hemisphere. These are intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth's environment.

The United Nations celebrates Earth Day, which was founded by John McConnell in 1969, each year on the March equinox, while a global observance originated by Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in, and since January 1970 also called Earth Day, is celebrated in many countries each year on April 22. Beltane, April 30 or May 1

Beltane is the first holiday of summer and signifies the approach of summer and the death of winter. This is an ancient celebration of the return of fertility to the world after it passes through winter. It divided the Celtic year into winter and summer. It stresses human fertility. Associated with this festival is Bloodstone, sapphire, frankincense, honeysuckle, Jasmine, St. John's Wort, rosemary, green, yellow, and red. It is also known as Beltaine, May Day, Roodmass, and Walpurgisgs to all. Click here for more information about Beltane and how it relates to the Christianized version of the day, known as May Day.
