Herb Parsley

Biological Name: Petroselinum crispum Umbelliferae

Other Names: Parsley, garden parsley, rock parsley, common parsley, march
Parts Used: The tap root, leaves and seeds
Active Compounds:
Volatile oil, containing apiole, myristicin, b-phellandrene, p-mentha-l,3,8-triene, 4- isopropenyl-l-methylbenzene, 2-(p-toluyl)propan-2-olCoumarins, Flavonoids, Phthalides & Vitamins.

Remedies For:
Diuretic, expectorant, emmenagogue, carminative, anti-spasmodic, hypotensive, aperient.

The fresh herb is a rich source of vitamin C. Medicinally, Parsley has three main areas of usage. Firstly, it is an effective diuretic, helping the body get rid of excess water. The second area of use is as an emmenagogue stimulating the menstrual process. It is advisable not to use parsley in medicinal dosage during pregnancy as there may be excessive stimulation of the womb. The third use is as a carminative, easing flatulence and the colic pains that may accompany it.

CAUTION: Do not use during pregnancy in medicinal dosage.

Description:
Parsley is native to the Eastern Mediterranean. It is cultivated worldwide.

Dosage:
Infusion: Pour a cup of boiling water onto 1-2 teaspoonfuls of the leaves or root and let infuse for 5-10 minutes in a closed container. This should be drunk three times a day.

Tincture: take 1-2 ml of the tincture three times a day.

Safety:
CAUTION: Do not use during pregnancy in medicinal dosage. Do not use parsley if you have a kidney infection.

Symbols of Easter

I have always been intrigued with the symbology surrounding the various holidays we celebrate. Each holiday has it's very own set of symbols that we associate with it right sown to the flowers

Eastre is a little confusing as you have the religous Easter and the Pagan celebration of Spring . So many symbols can be atributed to both Christians and Pagans. The pagon being the orgins of many. Eggs, Easter baskets, bunnies, and candy, have their origin in practices which have nothing to do with the resurrection of Christ – the focal point of the Christian celebration.

These menaings are Christian

Easter eggs & baby chicks- Eggs and chicks symbolize new life. Eggs have been a symbol of spring since ancient times. An egg also is a symbol of the rock tomb out of which Christ emerged when
he arose again. The chick, hatching out of the egg, symbolizes new life or re-birth.

Easter bunny- The rabbit, or hare, was a symbol of abundant new life in ancient times, and reminds us of spring and new life.

Easter Lilies- The white blossoms symbolize the purity of Jesus.
Lilies, emerging from the earth in the spring, also symbolize new life and the resurrection of Christ. All About Easter Lilies.

The lamb - Represents Jesus, "the Lamb of God".

The cross - Symbolizes Jesus' victory over death.

Palm branches- Represents when Jesus arrived in Jerusalem on the first Palm Sunday and people waved palm branches, welcoming him.

Easter hats & wearing new clothes for Easter- Symbolizes new life offered through the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Hot Cross Buns- Hot cross buns have a cross of icing on the top to remind people of Christ.

Candles - Symbolize Jesus, "the light of the world".

Pretzels - A food eaten during Lent- the twisted shaped symbolizes arms crossed in prayer.

Easter & Spring flowers- Daffodils and tulips bloom in the spring, and symbolize spring and new life.

Baby animals- Baby animals born in the spring also represent spring and new life.

The Butterfly is one of the significant symbols of Easter. Its whole life cycle is meant to symbolize the life of Jesus Christ. The first stage, is the caterpillar, which stands for His life on Earth. Second phase
begins from the cocoon stage, portraying the crucifixion and burial of Jesus. The third and final stage is the butterfly, representing His raising from the dead in a glorified body and peace.

The Easter/Ostara Egg
One traditional symbol of Ostara begins with the egg itself. The shell is seen as the universe, which surrounds everyone and everything. The white is the Goddess, while the golden yolk represents the Sun God, and the egg as a whole is a symbol of rebirth.

The traditional coloring and giving of eggs at Easter has very Pagan associations. In England and Northern Europe, eggs were often employed in folk magic when women wanted to be blessed with children.

The Easter/Ostara Bunny
Clearly the association of rabbits with Easter has to do with fertility magic. These cute furry creatures reproduce rapidly, and often.

The Easter Bunny has its origin in the tradition of honoring of rabbits during spring as an animal sacred to the goddess Eostre. According to lore, she is the goddess of spring who presides over the birth of babies, both animal and human, and of the pollination, flowering and ripening of fruits in the plant kingdom.

The modern belief that eggs are delivered by a rabbit, comes from a popular Pagan legend about Eostre. According to the legend, Eostre was walking one spring day and came upon a beautiful little bird. The poor bird's wing was badly injured and Eostre, feeling great compassion for the little creature, wanted to heal it. But the little bird's wing was so badly damaged that Eostre knew it would never be able to fly again even after she healed it.

Eostre decided to help the bird by healing it in a way that would give it mobility and a little something more; she turned it into a rabbit. During the transformation, the rabbit retained the ability to lay eggs.

The rabbit was so grateful to Eostre for saving her life that she laid a sacred egg in Eostre's honor. The rabbit decorated the egg and then presented it to the Goddess. She was so pleased by the rabbit's gift that she wished all humankind to share in her joy.

In honoring her wishes, the rabbit went all over the world distributing beautifully decorated little gifts of life and continues to do so even today.

Laws of the Universe

55. The Law of Mantras. Each mantra is a linkage to a certain aspect of the absolute, a certain manifestation of Divinity. In true mantra practice, one forgets the fact that the self is chanting, becomes the mantra itself, and attains the state where nothing but the mantra exists. One's being then connects with the higher being the mantra represents if it is the name of a Master Being, or connects with the ray of light emanating from God if it is a sound (aum or om, hu, etc.). The practice of chanting mantras is profoundly beneficial in raising the vibration of self.

56. The Law of Meditation. This law is defined as a current of unified thought. It is a continuum of mental effort to assimilate the object of meditation, free from any other effort to assimilate other objects. The very least that may happen is the calming of self. When meditating on God, the most profound happening will bring a merging of the two, or enlightenment, as Buddhists call this occurrence.

57. The Law of Mentalism. "THE ALL is MIND" The All is substantial reality underlying all the outward manifestations and appearances which we know as empirical. The material universe, phenomena, matter, energy and all that is apparent to our material senses. It is spirit indefinable, unknowable, and thought of as a universal, infinite, living mind. This Law explains the true nature of energy, power and matter. The Universe is mental in nature, and mental transmutation is the art of changing the conditions of the universe, along the lines of matter, force, and mind. The atom of matter, the unit of force, the mind of man, and the being of the arch-angel are all but degrees in one scale, and all fundamentally the same. The difference is solely a matter of degree and rate of vibration. All are creations of the All, and have their existence solely within the Infinite Mind of the All.

58. The Law of Miracles. This law is operable by any person who has realized that the essence of creation is light. A master is able to employ his/her divine knowledge of light phenomena to project instantly into perceptible manifestation the ubiquitous light atoms. The actual form of the projection (whatever it is, water into wine, medicine, a human body) is determined by the master's wish and by his/her powers of will and visualization. All events in our precisely adjusted universe are lawfully wrought and lawfully explicable. The so-called miraculous powers of a great master are a natural accompaniment to his/her exact understanding of subtle laws that operate in the inner cosmos of consciousness. Nothing is a miracle except in the profound sense that everything is a miracle. Is anything more miraculous than that each of us is encased in an intricately organized body, and is set upon on earth whirling through space among the stars?

Gemstone of the Month Diamond

April Birthstone - Diamond
April's birthstone is remarkably simple in composition, yet stunning in its unique ability to reflect and refract light into vivid flashes of brilliant color. The ancient Hindus called the Diamond "Vajra," meaning lightening, both because of the sparks of light thrown off by this gem as well as its invincible strength. The Diamond is harder than any other substance on earth.

Diamonds have been revered throughout history. Used to embellish such items as crowns, swords and emblems as well as jewelry, they've even been part of national holidays. Queen Victoria declared the celebration of her 50th year of reign a "Diamond Jubilee." Diamonds have also been credited for having certain medicinal properties. During the middle ages, these gemstones were thought to heal illness, but only if the ailing person took the Diamond into bed to warm it up first!

Formed deep within the earth where there is intense heat and pressure, Diamonds are simply crystallized carbon. Volcanic activity of centuries ago brought these gemstones to the earth's surface, where they are found either within volcanic rock formations or washed out into rivers. India is thought to be the first river-bed source of Diamond mining, but today these gemstones are found primarily in Australia, the Soviet Union, and Africa.
