Notes from Linda

Hello Everyone,

Winter is almost over and we're soon going to be entering Spring. I can't wait. Spring is the renewal of Life. It's the time when the Earth wakes up from its sleep and starts anew. New adventures, new beginnings, new life. As Mother natures summons wildlife to her call, the birds return to their homes, the flowers wake up and begin to push themselves up from the ground, and the trees begin to blossom. It's time for mankind to take care of the earth with the love and care she deserves. It's also a time where people get back to sharing and caring with eachother. Step out into the world with courage, faith and hope to expect new changes for the better.

To celebrate Spring and the coming of new hope into our lives, we're going to do two BlogTalk Radio shows, one this month and one in April, which deals with manifesting your desires into reality.

Last month HAR tried something different on BlogTalk Radio. Instead of having a Spiritual Roundtable with a particular topic, we had an Open Forum. This was a first for us and we weren't sure how it would turn out. The response was amazing. We had so many callers that the switchboard couldn't handle it and callers had to keep trying to get their calls in. We also had alot of chat room participation. This being said, HAR will schedule another Open Forum in the near future.

I mentioned last month that I would keep you posted with regards to Peter Ferraro's joining Heaven's Angels. After talking with Peter for a few months now, Peter's almost gotten his schedule arranged with his day job so that he can join our family here. We're hoping Peter is going to start either the middle of this month or the beginning of next. Keep checking our Readers Bio page and the chat schedule.

So many disasters in recent months. As I'm sure you all know by now, central Chili experienced a devastating 8.8 earthquake on February 27, 2010. This quake in Chile is second only to the 9.5 quake they experienced in 1960. It'll take a long time for the people of Chili to recover and rebuild. HAR has been sending prayers out for the victims of the quake, and we ask that you all please do the same. Thank you.

Just a reminder to all that in the wake of all the disasters the world has experienced in the past year ... with all the devastation we've experienced around the world, there is an awakening , and from the rubble we will build and become stronger in hope and faith.

Until next month ...

Blessings of Love & Light,

Linda

Happy Spring Everyone.

Yes, believe it or not March 21st is the first day of Spring. Here it the west we have had rain, the east is still buried under a wintery coat of white. But never fear spring will come and with spring the renewal of the earth and the growth of new life on the planet.

We have a great featured article this month. "Katrina, from the Eyes of a Red Cross Volunteer.

As you may have noticed we are no longer redirecting our guests from our AOL charoom to our web site chat room on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. IWe are offering a weekly emails chat reminder which will have a schedule of chats and links. If you'd like to receive the chat reminder emai, just send me and email at HAHBastet@aol.com.

We continue to look for people who would like to join the HAR family. Yes, we are still searching for people to host chats and of course Readers. We also have a variety of other volunteer postions open. If you are interested you may submit an application on or web site. Just look for the link at the bottom of our web pages. You can always contact us directly with questions too.

Ostara (Spring Equinox), is March 21 st. The day and night are of equal length. Ostara is name of the Scandinavian Goddess of spring and the festival deals with fertility, mainly of the animal kingdom and plants. it celebrates the dead of winter and the beginning of the cycle of rebirth. During this festival that was customary to exchange colored eggs. Associated with this festival is Moonstone, rose quartz, daffodils, ginger, frankincense, Jasmine, nutmeg, sandalwood, rose, blue, pink, and red. is also known as Alban Eilir, Easter, Lady Day, and Waxing Equinox.

We would love to have more of our members and guests become more involved with HAR. We offer many ways for you to contribute to the daily HAR workings. We have many volunteer opportunities which do not require you to be tied to a weekly schedule. Below are just a few of these.

Please send any submission, suggestion or questions directly to me at, HAHBastet@aol.com

May your neighbors respect you,
Troubles neglect you,
The angels protect you,
And Heaven accept you.

Herb Dandelion

Biological Name: Taraxacum officinale, Taraxaci mongolici
Compositae

Other Names:
Blowball, cankerwort, lion's tooth, priest's crown, puffball, swine snout, white endive, wild endive, dandelion, Pu gong ying

Parts Used: leaves and root
Active Compounds:
The principal constituents responsible for dandelion's effect on the digestive system and liver are the bitter principles. Previously referred to as taraxacin, these constituents are sesquiterpene lactones of the eudesmanolide and germacranolide type and are unique to dandelion.

Dandelion is also a rich source of vitamins and minerals. The leaves have a very high content of vitamin A as well as moderate amounts of vitamin D, vitamin C, various B vitamins, iron, silicon, magnesium, zinc, and manganese.

The leaves are a rich source of potassium, which is interesting since the leaves are used for their diuretic action. This may make dandelion the only naturally occurring potassium-sparing diuretic, although its diuretic action is likely different from that of pharmaceuticals. At high doses, the leaves have been shown to possess diuretic effects comparable to the prescription diuretic frusemide (Lasix). Since clinical data in humans is sparse, it is advisable to seek the guidance of a physician trained in herbal medicine before using dandelion leaves for water retention.

The bitter compounds in the leaves and root help stimulate digestion and are mild laxatives. These bitter principles also increase bile production in the gallbladder and bile flow from the liver. This makes them a particularly useful tonic for persons with sluggish liver function due to alcohol abuse or poor diet. The increase in bile flow will help improve fat (including cholesterol) metabolism in the body

History:
Dandelion is commonly used as a food. The leaves are used in salads and teas, while the roots are often used as a coffee substitute.

Dandelion leaves and roots have been used for hundreds of years to treat liver, gallbladder, kidney, and joint problems. In some countries, dandelion is considered a blood purifier and is used for ailments such as eczema and cancer.

Dandelion has also been used historically to treat poor digestion, water retention, and diseases of the liver, including hepatitis.

Remedies For:
Hepatic, aperient, diuretic, depurative, tonic, stomachic

Dandelion is useful for a variety of purposes:

Leaves:
Constipation
Indigestion and heartburn
Pregnancy support
Water retention

Root:
Alcoholism
Constipation
Indigestion and heartburn
Liver support
Pregnancy support

Dandelion has two particularly important uses: to promote the formation of bile and to remove excess water from the body. The root affects all forms of secretion and excretion from the body. It acts as a tonic and stimulant by removing toxins and poisons from the body. It increases the flow of urine in patients with liver problems. It is slightly laxative. It is a splendid remedy for jaundice and skin diseases, scurvy, scrofula, and eczema. Useful in all kinds of kidney troubles, diabetes, dropsy, inflammation of the bowels, and fever.

Has beneficial effect on the female organs. Increases the activity of the liver, pancreas, and spleen, especially in enlargement of the liver and the spleen.

Lukewarm dandelion tea is recommended for dyspepsia with constipation, fever, insomnia, and hypochondria. An infusion of the fresh root is reportedly good for gallstones, jaundice, and other liver problems.

Chinese Herbal Applications:
Dandelion is used whenever there is liver involvement with heat and toxins in the blood. This includes jaundice, hepatitis, red and swollen eyes, as well as urinary tract infection, abscesses, or firm, hard sores in the breasts. It is also very effective to increase the production of mother's milk.

Description:
Closely related to chicory, dandelion is a common perennial plant worldwide. The plant grows to a height of about 12 inches. The oblong or spatulate, irregularly dentate or pinnatified leaves grow in a rosette from the milky taproot, which also sends up one or more naked flower stems, each terminating in a single yellow flower.

The familiar puffball that succeeds the flower is a globular cluster of achenes, each of which is fitted with a parachute-like tuft.

Dandelion is grown commercially in the United States and Europe. The leaves and root are used in herbal supplements.

Dosage:
As a general liver/gallbladder tonic and to stimulate digestion, 3-5 grams of the dried root or 5-10 ml of a tincture made from the root can be used three times per day Some experts recommend the alcohol-based tincture because the bitter principles are more soluble in alcohol.

As a mild diuretic or appetite stimulant, 4-10 grams of dried leaves can be added to 250 ml (1 cup) of boiling water and drunk as a decoction; or 5-10 ml of fresh juice from the leaves or 2-5 ml of tincture made from the leaves can be used three times per day.

The fresh juice is the most effective.

For chronic rheumatism, gout, stiff joints follow an 8-week dandelion cure as follows:

Use the whole plant before it flowers, leaves during flowering and root only during fall.

Infusion: Steep 2 tsp. Plant or root in 1-cup boiling water. Take 1/2 to 1 cup a day, lukewarm or cold.

Decoction: Use 4 oz. Fresh plant with 2 pints of water; boil down gently to 1 pint and strain. Take 3 tbsp. Six times daily.

Cold extract: Use 2 tsp. Plant with 1 cup water; let stand for 8-hours.

Juice: For a springtime tonic, take 1 tsp. Juice pressed from the leaves in milk, one to three times a day. Use an electric vegetable juicer to extract the milk.

Safety:
Dandelion leaf and root should be used with caution by persons with gallstones. If there is an obstruction of the bile ducts, then dandelion should be avoided altogether.

In cases of stomach ulcer or gastritis, dandelion should be used cautiously, as it may cause overproduction of stomach acid.

Those experiencing fluid or water retention should consult a nutritionally oriented doctor before taking dandelion leaves. People taking the leaves should be sure that their doctors monitor potassium levels.

The milky latex in the stem and leaves of fresh dandelion may cause an allergic rash in some individuals.

Katrina and The Red Cross

By HAH Mary

I am a Red Cross volunteer. I respond to disasters, large and small. I have deployed to hurricanes and floods and spent two months here in my own area dealing with clients and their problems caused by huge wild fires. Two months of seeing smoke, not the sky. Two months of the constant smell of smoke. Two months of people being evacuated, allowed to return home and then evacuated again.

Our Chapter is a huge regional chapter, a geographic nightmare. We have thirteen counties that cover about twenty nine thousand square miles of valley and mountains. We have three counties that have any kind of urban population, and the rest are major agricultural areas or have national forests.

My job title is Disaster Manager and my county is one of the rural agricultural areas. This is a local title, and it is really just a title because I am a volunteer, as are 98% of all people connected with the Red Cross. . It is my job to make sure that the training and coordination takes place, to recruit people as volunteers and partners. The more I respond to disasters, the more I realize how critical it is for our communities to have all of this in place before hand.

Tomorrow I will be meeting with a woman whose home burned to the ground. The bad news is her family lost everything. The good news is her family, including three very small children escaped with their lives. In March we will be participating in a community event as part of Red Cross public relations, letting people know that we are here and active.

We also provide support to members of our Armed Forces. We coordinate between the military, service members and their families in times of family emergencies. While I tend to focus on disasters, I help with these types of emergencies as well. At times circumstances require me to physically be there. Recently, I found myself on what should have been an eighteen mile drive to meet a .soldier who was stranded with his family. I say “should have been” because the coordinator gave me the wrong town. (Both towns had the same street address which made it a bit more confusing.) So I ended up driving forty miles to meet the soldier. He was returning to his base after being on leave .

His tire blew on the freeway and he and his family were stranded. He, his wife and four year old daughter had been waiting for someone most of the day. I was amazed at how well the little girl handled it. My kids would never have been so cheerful after that!

I paid pay for tires and give him cash for gas to get back to his duty station.

We had a fire at a local hardware store. So at three AM (Personal opinion here, but I think most fires start some time after I get to sleep), I got a call from our Chapter Disaster Director saying there was a fire and we had to open a shelter because they had to evacuate a convalescent home. The hardware store had fertilizers, paints and other chemicals, and the winds blowing them in the direction of the home. After some discussion with the county Office of Emergency Services we picked a shelter, I ran to get cots and had someone from the church there to open the doors. They were already at the shelter when I got there. Apparently they were in the bus ready to move before the called us to set up the shelter! I absolutely loved these people! Most opted to stay up since it was getting towards dawn. There was a 100 yr old lady in a wheel chair who could only go backwards. She took the time to point out all the issues she found with the shelter.

I will not discuss the man who was still driving and nearly drove his car over me and into the shelter!

The Knights of Columbus were called by the church at 5:30 AM and asked if they would mind coming in to fix breakfast for these people. They did and were there cooking at six!!!! Not only did we appreciate them for coming in at that ungodly hour, they were amazing with the clients. They were so gentle and caring I am still moved by their actions.

I worked in an Emergency Operation Center during a fire in my own town. The fire was following a creek bed and threatening a number of homes. I saw fire fighters who had just come face to face with their own mortality when a home exploded.

Red Cross volunteers do a lot preparing for disasters. We have partnerships with schools, community halls, churches and other facilities for shelters. In our county we are getting into partnerships with businesses to help us if we do open shelters. We cannot do it alone and we need community support to make things work.

We also train. We have classes in Mass Care, Sheltering, Feeding and Logistics. We train people to work in Emergency Operations Centers We take FEMA's Incident Command Systems classes along side police, fire fighters and public health officials. We also hold disaster simulations.

Now you might be asking how I got myself into all of these. The answer is actually pretty simple. After Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana , I spent a lot of time watching the news, totally mesmerized by it all. And then I got this feeling that kept pushing me to sign up to be a Red Cross volunteer. I tried ignoring it, but the push kept getting stronger and stronger. The day I finished my first training class that push just disappeared. When I realized it I was thinking how nice. Nag me to do something and then just disappear.

I sat around for a month, I decided they weren't going to call me and immediately forgot about it. So naturally, they called, but who would have thought they would call while I was in the doctor's office?! Not only did they tell me I was leaving for Texas in three days, they said I had to go!!!. Rita had hit Texas and they needed volunteers.

The next three weeks gave me some great memories and some not so great. I worked in two different shelters and set up and ran a call center for the local chapter. My experiences were as emotional as any I have ever had, more than most. I laughed, I cried and I loved the people!!!

With the mess from Katrina and from Rita, the Red Cross and every other agency in the country was overwhelmed. When I got to Texas , there were four hundred Red Cross volunteers at the airport on a Saturday night. We had no transportation and none of the phone numbers worked. Someone was finally able to contact the headquarters and the line of taxis started arriving. Do the math – 400 volunteers and maybe 5 to a cab!

We spent the night in a staff shelter. Staff shelters are the same as client shelters. We sleep on cots with a blanket. And the intimacy of sleeping with 300 of your newest and best friends is an adventure. The next morning we processed in and then we were off to our assignments

My first assignments made for some incredible memories! There was the lady who was a beautician and packed her equipment when she evacuated. We had some of the most beautifully coifed women you will ever see in a shelter! There was a young man from Oregon who is a professional blues singer and guitarist. During the day he ran the programs for the kids. In the evening he would sit outside with the older Black men and they would just sit there and jam. There was a man that no one could communicate with. It took a while to figure out he was deaf. Our team had someone who could sign, so she was able to help him a bit more effectively. He told us the story of how he road his bike during the evacuation and how he waived at all the cars and busses stuck in traffic as he went flying by on his bike. He also mentioned having some interesting gestures made at him as he went by.

There was a family that totally won my heart. Staff members kept telling me there were twin 13 yr old brothers. I never saw them. Or at least didn't realize I had seen them. There was always one of the boys out taking care of their younger brother and socializing. The other would be with their grandparents, making sure they were taken care of. (Did I mention the twins were drop dead gorgeous and that the girls in the shelter followed them everywhere they went?) The grandparents took care of the kids and the kids took care of the grandparents, even giving them their insulin shots. The day they were closing the shelter was the day I realized my back wasn't thrilled at the work I was doing at the time or maybe it was sleeping on the cots, or maybe a combination of both. I was walking around holding my back when I finally saw the grandmother. She was in a wheel chair and looked at me and smiled. My back still hurt, but her smile actually made me forget about the pain. Her smile lit up the room and my heart. She was exactly what I needed.

When that shelter closed (they were moving people closer to their homes), we moved on to another shelter, and another round of incredible people, Red Cross and clients. And that shelter closed down, as well. So we were off to another assignment.

On our next assignment we got split up. My friends were assigned to a kitchen that was DOWN to serving thirteen thousand meals a day. I was assigned to the local chapter headquarters. Initially I was assigned to data entry. Then I went out with a survey team checking on the welfare of the people of the community. And finally I ended up setting up the phone bank. That was an adventure!

There were too many calls that started with “We have lost everything.” But at the same time I learned to appreciate that people who smiled through their pain. I loved the older women who called in and started with, “My name is Mrs. Husband's Name.” I can't even begin to guess how many people said God bless you! And when they learned I had come from California to help them, they all said thank you and God bless me for coming down!!! My name went from Mary to Miss Mary, and in one case, I was Miss Red Cross.

It amazes me the way people in distress can find the courage and strength to maintain their balance. I think they know if they let themselves go, they will lose it. Most of the people help each other.

I am blown away by the generosity of spirit so many of the Red Cross volunteers. People leave their homes to help others, and they love what they do, no matter how bad things get. And things do get bad. It is a disaster, and nothing is normal. Everyone is out of their elements. There will always be the problem children, but you don't usually remember them.

Since Rita, I have deployed to Texas for floods (I will NEVER forget the thunder and lightening there), and then to Oregon for another round of floods, where we had snow, rain, fog, freezing fog, and some sunshine, all in five days. After that, we spent two months here with forest fires here that were so close that people were evacuated over and over again. I don't want to think of how many homes and lives were lost in those fires. And then there was Gustav in Texas again, and then to South Carolina for Hannah, and then home. And then Ike hit, and I was back to Texas . I think there is a pattern here.

But Red Cross also responds to home fires giving people hotel rooms, and money for food and clothing. We open cooling shelters in the summer and warming shelters in the winter. And we are preparing for disasters year round. It is a lot of work. It is very emotional, but I can't think of anything I have ever done that is as satisfying and touching as helping our clients.

Sometimes it amazes me when I think of the things we do, the things we accomplish! It is nothing short of incredible. It may sound kind of self aggrandizing, but I have been doing this since Katrina and know what all goes into it.

There are volunteers in every part of the country, ready to help out in small disasters, usually home fires, and many have their bags packed ready to head out anywhere in the country at a moment's notice.

Laws of the Universe

51. The Law of Magnetic Control. One of the seven laws of our solar system, under the three major laws. This holds paramountly on the buddhic plane, and in the development of the control of this law lies hid the control of the personality by the Monad via the egoic body. A second description on a very physical/man level, is that every thought we have creates a match that comes back to us like a boomerang.

52. The Law of Magnetic Impulse. Also known as the first step towards marriage, or the law of the polar union. It results in an eventual union between the man or atom and the group which produces harmonious group relations. It is also known as the law of the polar union, and the symbol is two fiery balls united by a triangle of fire, thus picturing the triple interplay between all atomic structures. The ray energy is radiatory energy of the 2nd ray. Manifesting factor.

53. The Law of Magnetism. This is the law which produces the unifying of a personality, and though it is an expression of lunar force, is of a higher order than the law of physical sex. The three aspects are the stage of high intellectuality, or of artistic attainment. Second is the stage of discipleship. Third is the stage of treading the Path.

54. The Law of Manifestation. There are actions, sounds, techniques, mental energy and symbols which when understood, will enable one to manifest first energy (love, more joy, peace, etc.) into one's aura, then with practice and increased love held in the heart and emotional body - physical objects. Thought is a force, even as electricity or gravitation. The human mind is a spark of the almighty consciousness of God. Whatever the powerful mind (holding a pure thought - that which excludes any other thought) believes very intensely will instantly come to pass.

Common Planats Toxic to Cats & Dogs

Lilies
Lilies are particularly toxic for cats. The poisonous part of the plant hasn’t yet been identified, so your best bet is to simply avoid lilies around your home if you also have a pet, especially a cat. Exposure to just a tiny amount of the toxin in a lily plant can cause severe and fatal kidney disease.

Sago Palms
This variety of palm tree is dangerous for both dogs and cats. All parts of the sago are toxic, but especially the “nuts” or seeds. Just a seed or two can make your pet desperately ill with drooling, vomiting, lethargy, seizures and acute liver failure.

Tulips
The entire tulip plant is toxic to your pet, but the bulbs are more poisonous than the leaves or stems. Tulip bulbs can cause serious gastrointestinal irritation, drooling, loss of appetite, depression of the central nervous system, convulsions and cardiac abnormalities.

Azaleas and Rhododendrons
Species of these plants contain grayanotoxin, a compound that will cause your dog or cat gastrointestinal symptoms including bloating, diarrhea and vomiting. Ultimately, ingestion of azaleas or rhododendrons can result in coma, cardiovascular collapse and death.

Oleanders
All varieties of the oleander plant are poisonous for both dogs and cats. This plant contains cardiac glycosides which can cause sudden death from heart failure.

Castor Bean Plants
The castor bean plant is deadly to both dogs and cats. The beans of this plant contain a toxin called ricin. Ricin can bring on abdominal pain and bloating, and swelling of the mouth and any other part of the gastrointestinal tract the bean oil comes in contact with. More serious poisoning can cause twitching, seizures, musculoskeletal convulsions, coma and death.

Cyclamen
Cyclamen is a common house plant with roots that are toxic to dogs and cats. The most common symptom from ingestion of cyclamen is gastrointestinal irritation resulting in severe vomiting.

Cilantro
The cilantro plant can cause gastrointestinal irritation and cardiac arrhythmia in your pet.

Yew
The yew plant and in fact, all species of the taxus or yew family of plants can cause serious problems for both dogs and cats.

Amaryllis
Symptoms of poisoning from the amaryllis, also known as the Easter plant, are vomiting, lethargy and depression.

Prayer for Spring

Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in midair stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,
The which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends He will,
But which it only needs that we fulfill.

Gemstone of the Month Aquamarine

The gemstone Aquamarine is the modern March birthstone as adopted by the American National Association of Jewelers in 1912. It is also the birth stone for the Zodiac sign of Scorpio. See the birthstone table for additional references to this stone. Aquamarine is suggested as a gem to give on the 16th and 19th wedding anniversaries.

Aquamarine is a member of the beryl family and ranges in color from an almost colorless pale blue to blue-green or teal. The most prized color is a deep-blue aqua color. It is 7.5-8 on the Mohs scale of hardness and gets its name from Latin words meaning water and sea.

The most valuable aquamarines come from Brazil, but it is also mined in Kenya and Nigeria, Madagascar, Zambia, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Russia. . Aquamarines on the market today are usually faceted, but when cut as a cabochon, they may display a cat's eye effect known as asterism.

Folklore, Legend, and Healing Properties:
Since early times, aquamarine has been believed to endow the wearer with foresight, courage, and happiness. It is said to increase intelligence and make one youthful. As a healing stone, it is said to be effective as a treatment for anxiety and in the Middle Ages it was thought that aquamarine would reduce the effect of poisons.

A legend says that sailors wore aquamarine gemstones to keep them safe and prevent seasickness.

Compassionate and kind
Selfless and unworldly
Intuitive and sympathetic

On the dark side....
Escapist and idealistic
Secretive and vague
Weak-willed and easily led

Pisceans possess a gentle, patient, malleable nature. They have many generous qualities and are friendly, good natured, kind and compassionate, sensitive to the feelings of those around them, and respond with the utmost sympathy and tact to any suffering they encounter. They are popular with all kinds of people. They accept the people around them and the circumstances in which they find themselves and they wait for problems to sort themselves out rather than take the initiative in solving them. They are more concerned with the problems of others than with their own.

They sometimes exist emotionally rather than rationally, instinctively more than intellectually (depending on how they are aspected). They long to be recognized as greatly creative. They also dislike disciple and confinement. Any rebellion they make against convention is personal, however, as they often times do not have the energy or motivation to battle against the Establishment.

Pisceans tend to withdraw into a dream world where their qualities can bring mental satisfaction and sometimes, fame and financial reward for they are extremely gifted artistically. They are also versatile and intuitive, have quick understanding, observe and listen well, and are receptive to new ideas and atmospheres. All these factors can combine to produce remarkable creativity in literature, music and art.

The Night Sky for March 2010

March 15 - New Moon

March 20 - The Vernal Equinox occurs in the northern hemisphere at 17:32 UT. There will be equal amounts of day and night. This is also the first day of spring.

March 22 - Saturn at Opposition. The ringed planet will be at its closest approach to Earth. This is the best time to view and photograph Saturn and its moons. Saturn's rings will be nearly edge-on this year and will be very difficult to see.

March 30 - Full Moon

Full Worm Moon - March As the temperature begins to warm and the ground begins to thaw, earthworm casts appear, heralding the return of the robins. The more northern tribes knew this Moon as the Full Crow Moon, when the cawing of crows signaled the end of winter; or the Full Crust Moon, because the snow cover becomes crusted from thawing by day and freezing at night. The Full Sap Moon, marking the time of tapping maple trees, is another variation. To the settlers, it was also known as the Lenten Moon, and was considered to be the last full Moon of winter
