Greetings Everyone,
Welcome to November and the holidays. It's a great time of year, however it seems to be the cause of a lot stress in people's lives. With times being such as they are I have no doubt that will be even more true this year. It's always important to be able to take a step back and regroup. Be kind to yourself you deserve it.
Our Ghostly Trivia game seems to have been a big hit with all who attended. The staff also enjoyed the fun. Our winner was WellBelovedOne and runner up MariaKramer. Congradulations to you both! I'd go ghost hunting with you anytime. Our Special Event Readings also seemed to have gone over well with our guests. We hope to be able to do more of thses types of events for you in the future.
We have recently updated our free mini readings policy to allow for free readings every 45 days instead of 30 days. This is due unfortunately to some of our guests taking advantage of the our previous 30 day policy and using more than one xcreen name to obtain readings. We feel that this is unfair to other guests and new guests seeking a first time reading.
We continue to look for people who would like to become Chat Hosts, which we are desperate to find . We are not sure how much longer we can continue to do our current short schedule of chats with our current number of Chat Hosts. We of course are always looking for experienced Readers to join the HAR family too. Unfortunately, we are still under staffed which means we can not open more weekly chats for our guests and may have to close some current chats. If you are at all interested in hosting for HAR please contact me at, HAHBastet@aol.com. I'd love to hear from you and discuss any questions you may have.
Our shorter chat schedule, Mon-Thu 7-9 pm Fridays 7-11pm and Saturdays 7-9 pm PST, is still in effect. Our Sunday radio show hours are still the same. We hope to be adding more chats to the schedule soon. Please check our web site for scheduling updates.

We are currently looking for orginal graphics submissions to use on our Ecards. We would love to have more of our members and guests become more involved with HAR. We offer many ways for you to contribute to the daily HAR workings.We have many volunteer opportunities which do not require you to be tied to a weekly schedule. Below are just a few of these.
Submissions for the newsletter. Orginal graphics. Researchers, we do hundreds of hours monthly doing research on various topics. For those gifted you may want to consider joining the HAR team on Lighted Path cases. Asst Editor of the news letter. Teaching classes. Suggestions for a topisc for our Radio show, perhaps a topic you are interested in that we could cover in the newsletter.

What It Is Used For
Flaxseed is most commonly used as a laxative.
Flaxseed is also used for hot flashes and breast pain.
Flaxseed oil is used for different conditions than flaxseed, including arthritis.
Both flaxseed and flaxseed oil have been used for high cholesterol levels and in an effort to prevent cancer.
How It Is Used
Whole or crushed flaxseed can be mixed with water or juice and taken by mouth. Flaxseed is also available in powder form. Flaxseed oil is available in liquid and capsule form. Flaxseed contains lignans (phytoestrogens, or plant estrogens), while flaxseed oil preparations lack lignans.
What the Science Says
Flaxseed contains soluble fiber, like that found in oat bran, and is an effective laxative.
Studies of flaxseed preparations to lower cholesterol levels report mixed results.
Some studies suggest that alpha-linolenic acid (a substance found in flaxseed and flaxseed oil) may benefit people with heart disease. But not enough reliable data are available to determine whether flaxseed is effective for heart conditions.
Study results are mixed on whether flaxseed decreases hot flashes.
NCCAM is funding studies on flaxseed. Recent studies have looked at the effects of flaxseed on high cholesterol levels, as well as its possible role in preventing conditions such as heart disease and osteoporosis.
Side Effects and Cautions
Flaxseed and flaxseed oil supplements seem to be well tolerated. Few side effects have been reported.
Flaxseed, like any supplemental fiber source, should be taken with plenty of water; otherwise, it could worsen constipation or, in rare cases, even cause intestinal blockage.
The fiber in flaxseed may lower the body's ability to absorb medications that are taken by mouth. Flaxseed should not be taken at the same time as any conventional oral medications or other dietary supplements.
Tell your health care providers about any complementary and alternative practices you use. Give them a full picture of what you do to manage your health. This will help ensure coordinated and safe care.

Thanksgiving
Most stories of Thanksgiving history start with the harvest celebration of the pilgrims and the indians that took place in the autumn of 1621. Although they did have a three-day feast in celebration of a good harvest, and the local indians did participate, this "first Thanksgiving" was not a holiday, simply a gathering. There is little evidence that this feast of thanks led directly to our modern Thanksgiving Day holiday. Thanksgiving can, however, be traced back to 1863 when Pres. Lincoln became the first president to proclaim Thanksgiving Day. The holiday has been a fixture of late November ever since.
The Pilgrims who sailed to this country aboard the Mayflower were originally members of the English Separatist Church (a Puritan sect).
The Pilgrims set ground at Plymouth Rock on December 11, 1620. Their first winter was devastating. At the beginning of the following fall, they had lost 46 of the original 102 who sailed on the Mayflower. But the harvest of 1621 was a bountiful one. And the remaining colonists decided to celebrate with a feast -- including 91 Indians who had helped the Pilgrims survive their first year. It is believed that the Pilgrims would not have made it through the year without the help of the natives. The feast was more of a traditional English harvest festival than a true "thanksgiving" observance. It lasted three days.
Abraham Lincoln issued a 'Thanksgiving Proclamation' on third October 1863 and officially set aside the last Thursday of November as the national day for Thanksgiving. Whereas earlier the presidents used to make an annual proclamation to specify the day when Thanksgiving was to be held.

L.A. council committee favors law against declawing cats, calling it animal cruelty
A key committee of the Los Angeles City Council voted today to seek a law banning veterinarians from declawing cats, saying the procedure constituted cruelty to animals.
The council’s Public Safety Committee unanimously recommended that City Atty. Carmen Trutanich draft an ordinance banning the practice. The proposal was made by Councilmen Bill Rosendahl and Paul Koretz, who said the procedure caused “unnecessary pain, anguish and permanent disability” to cats.

The American Veterinary Medical Association today announced that a cat in Iowa became ill with the H1N1 ("swine flu") virus after the humans in her family became ill with the disease:
A cat in Iowa has tested positive for the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus, state officials confirmed this morning, marking the first time a cat has been diagnosed with this strain of influenza.
The cat, which has recovered, is believed to have caught the virus from someone in the household who was sick with H1N1. There are no indications that the cat passed the virus on to any other animals or people.
Prior to this diagnosis, the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus had been found in humans, pigs, birds and ferrets.
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) are reminding pet owners that some viruses can pass between people and animals, so this was not an altogether unexpected event. Pet owners should monitor their pets' health very closely, no matter what type of animal, and visit a veterinarian if there are any signs of illness.

Gemstone of the Month Yellow Topaz
There seems to be an argument over which gemstone is for the month of November, Topaz or Citrine. I have always been under the impression it was Topaz .I believe that this is due to the Zodiac signs over lapping the months of the year. Perhaps next year will we due Zodiac signs related birthstones for you.

Full Beaver Moon - November This was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs.
